“Hope you’re hungry”: Weyes Blood teases return and new album
Weyes Blood has teased fans with the release of new music, sharing a series of photos of herself while saying, “Hope you’re hungry”.
The singer took to Instagram on April 21st to share a number of pictures of herself working in the studio, alongside which she provided an update on her highly anticipated new record.
“IF you’ve been wondering…I HAVE been in the studio,” she wrote in the caption, before adding, “this one’s taking an extra minute to cook because it’s… extra delicious. Hope you’re hungry.”
The indie singer, whose real name is Natalie Mering, paired the teaser with a new interview in Rolling Stone, in which she said that her upcoming project is “very reflective of the time I’m at in my life, and how much being a woman changes over time.”
Mering also revealed that she had recorded much of the album at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York, joining the world’s greatest calibre of artists in terms of alumni, including Patti Smith and David Bowie, who have recorded there.
Describing the downstairs studio that she worked in, the singer said it was “like a submarine”, adding, “It’s really close to the underwater river, and I guess Jimi Hendrix built that space there to be close to the flow.”
Speaking of her own process, she continued: “We would get in there, and seven hours would just zip by without a single glance at the sun. We would just be in our bunker, experimenting. It was an amazing, timeless kind of energy.”
Although no concrete details have been revealed in regards to the release or sound of the latest Weyes Blood project, it comes nearly four years after her last album And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow in November 2022.
Most recently, Mering contributed to the soundtrack for the Oscar-nominated film Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet, which was composed by Oneohtrix Point Never.
