Holly Humberstone announces new album with single ‘To Love Somebody’

Indie-pop superstar Holly Humberstone has announced a new album, Cruel World, with the catchy new track ‘To Love Somebody’.

Cruel World, slated for an April 10th release, will be her second studio album and “draws deeply on love – romantic, platonic, and feminine”, according to press materials.

Speaking on the new single, Humberstone shared, “In ‘To Love Somebody’ I wanted to capture that contradiction: to love somebody, is to hurt somebody and to lose somebody, well at least you got to love somebody. In order to feel extreme happiness, you have to know extreme sadness. That’s the tension of the record.”

Humberstone, who was nominated for an Ivor Novello for her debut EP and won the ‘Rising Star’ at the Brit Awards in 2022, commits to the same indie-pop cadence that made her first release, Falling Asleep At The Wheel, a breakout EP.

Humberstone’s top three debut album, Paint My Bedroom Black, saw the singer interrogate notions of turbulence and longing; on Cruel World, Humberstone is anchored instead in stability and recollection.

The new album was written with a “new discipline”, through consistent, daily studio sessions with collaborator Rob Milton.

Accompanying the new single is a ghoulish new video directed by Silken Weinberg. Inspired by Victorian theatre, Brothers Grimm, and Nosferatu, the 26-year-old marks her return with an outlandish, refreshed aesthetic. Visually, Holly has built a world with her sister Eleri and creative director Silken Weinberg.

While the tracklist for the album has not yet been shared, Humberstone has previously released the project’s fifth track, ‘Die Happy’, which sees Humberstone take on a gruffer vocal and sing, “So hit the gas, I want it fast, want it reckless / Now all that matters is your name on my necklace.”

The ‘London Is Lonely’ singer recently joined Sam Fender on his Australian tour in November with a run of headline dates. This February, she will tour Europe for a run of intimate headline dates. She will embark upon a UK tour in March and April, culminating at Shepherds Bush Empire on April 2nd, 2026.
