Friday’s Track of the Day comes from London trio Happyness, thanks to their latest offering ‘You Come to Kill Me?!’.
The song builds upon the hugely infectious nature of the band’s debut album, Weird Little Birthday, once again presenting a grunge-tinged pop sound that is an ideal antidote for anyone who was left wanting following Pixies’ release of their first LP in 23 years, Indie Cindy.
Angsty lyrics are matched with an uplifting guitar hook, demonstrating the kind of youthful exuberance that sometimes seems unstoppable. What’s more, admirers of ‘You Come to Kill Me?!’ can look forward to a whole new EP entitled Anything I Do Is Alright, which will land September 1st.
Having toured with oddball singer-songwriter Ezra Furman a few months back, and played a string of shows with American rockers Speedy Ortiz just this week, Happyness have picked up a fair few fans along the way – not least BBC 6Music host Marc Riley.
And they will no doubt do their reputation no harm when they take to the stage at Green Man this weekend and Reading and Leeds next week. Be sure to add them to your list if you’re heading to either festival.
For others already sold, the band will embark on a UK headline tour of their own this October. Details below.
