Oscars 2025: Guy Pearce wears “Free Palestine” pin on red carpet

The Brutalist star Guy Pearce wore a “Free Palestine” pin as he arrived on the Oscars 2025 red carpet.

Pearce has never shied away from expressing his stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, using his appearances at prestigious awards ceremonies and film festivals to subtly show solidarity. At the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, he wore a bracelet in Palestinian colours, followed by a similar “Free Palestine” pin at The Brutalist premiere in January 2025.

Then, at the Golden Globes, he displayed an “Artists4Ceasefire” pin.

At that premiere in January, Pearce was asked about the ceasefire, and he mused, “Thankfully, all those people in Gaza can go back to their homes and live freely like they did on October 6th. I can’t help but think about people who are less privileged, whether they are people with disabilities or whether they are people under occupation, people who struggle with climate change.”

The actor added: “You know, I think it’s important in this situation it’s great to promote our movie, no question, but I think it’s also good to recognise everybody in the world, particularly when things are so imbalanced.”

It is unknown how Pearce’s stance will affect his chances of landing ‘Best Supporting Actor’, nor The Brutalist’s chances as a whole.

The film is up for ten awards at the ceremony, including ‘Best Picture, ‘Best Director’ for Brady Corbet, ‘Best Actor’ for Adrien Brody, and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for Felicity Jones. However, it’s obvious that he and a number of other stars of his ilk are unwilling to let the topic fade into the background of the cultural conversation.
