Guns N’ Roses, Tool and Jason Momoa added to Black Sabbath farewell show
Guns N’ Roses and Tool are among the new acts announced for Black Sabbath‘s farewell show at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5th. It’s also been revealed that Jason Momoa will host the event.
Previously, Guns N’ Roses duo Slash and Duff McKagan were revealed as special guests for the highly anticipated performance. However, now it has been announced that they will be taking to the stage alongside Axl Rose as part of Guns N’ Roses. Tool and Rival Sons are also the latest additions to the ever-growing line-up.
Other acts previously confirmed to appear include Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon. Meanwhile, Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Dave Ellefson, Vernon Reid and Whitfield Crane have been added to the list of musicians involved in a rotating line-up in a supergroup that will take place throughout the day.
Additionally, the supergroup will involve the previously announced names Billy Corgan, David Draiman, Frank Bello, Fred Durst, Jake E Lee, Jonathan Davis, KK Downing, Lzzy Hale, Mike Bordin, Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian, Sleep Token ii, Papa V Perpetua, Tom Morello, and Wolfgang Van Halen.
Tickets for the farewell show sold-out in around 15 minutes upon going on general sale on February 14th. Significantly, it will mark the first time that Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler have shared a stage as Black Sabbath in 20 years.
Following the concert, Osbourne will retire from performing live due to his ongoing health problems and battle with Parkinson’s disease which has hampered his mobility.
In the latest episode of his Ozzy Speaks show on SiriusXM, Osbourne looked ahead to the show at Villa Park, stating, “I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them. I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable.”
He also discussed the adjustments he has to make for day-to-day life now. “I am trying to get back on my feet,” he said, after the recent revelation that he can no longer walk as a result of his disease. He added, “When you get up in the morning, you just jump out of bed. I have to balance myself, but I’m not dead. I’m still actively doing things.”
