Guns N’ Roses play first show with new drummer Isaac Carpenter
Guns N’ Roses have kicked off their ambitious world tour with their new drummer, Isaac Carpenter, and things went off without a hitch.
The Songdo Moonlight Festival Park gig in Icheon, South Korea, was the first date on the ‘Because What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things’ tour.
Long-standing drummer Frank Ferrer announced his departure from the band in March. He had been with the hard rock icons for almost 20 years, joining in 2006 after replacing drummer Bryan Mantia. He is also known as one of the founding members of the 1980s new wave act, Psychedelic Furs.
A day after announcing Ferrer’s departure, the band revealed that Carpenter would join for future projects. Carpenter has previously played with the likes of Awolnation, and had “made a name for himself by uniquely blending versatility and groove with crushing force and technical skill,” they noted, ahead of the upcoming tour.
On the first night of the tour, they made another change to their live offering; for the first time since 2012, Guns opened with ‘Welcome to the Jungle.’ Additionally, of the four post-reunion songs Guns N’ Roses have released since 2021, only ‘Perhaps’ appeared in the set.
On the 22-song set list, four of them were covers. These were Bob Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’, Wings’ ‘Live and Let Die,’ Glen Campbell’s ‘Wichita Lineman’ and Velvet Revolver’s ‘Slither’.
Guns N’ Roses will continue on the current tour through the rest of the spring and early summer. They will conclude on July 31st at Wacken Open Air.
