Guns N’ Roses clarify Axl Rose incident during Buenos Aires concert
Guns N’ Roses have issued a statement after Axl Rose appeared to lash out a drum kit during a recent show in Argentina.
The incident took place on October 18th when the rock band performed at the Estadio Huracán in the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires.
Fan footage that surfaced on social media showed that Rose became angered during the opening song of their set, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. The frontman, who looked visibly frustrated, was filmed kicking the drum riser and also throwing his microphone at the drum kit.
Rose was then captured taking off his jacket and walking off stage, before returning shortly later. Addressing the crowd, he said, “So, I’ll just try and wing this.”
Now, the band have taken to Instagram Stories to inform fans: “During the opening song at our recent Buenos Aires concert, Axl’s in-ear monitor pack had only the percussion in his ears versus the entire mix.”
Guns N’ Roses then explained that it was only a short-lived issue, which they managed to sort out at an early stage of the show, adding, “The issue was fixed by our tech by the third song, and we had a great night.”
They then confirmed that Rose’s antics were not linked to Isaac Carpenter’s drumming, who they have complete confidence in, adding, “The situation had nothing to do with Isaac Carpenter’s playing, who is top notch and a great player.”
Carpenter, who has previously played in Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan’s band Loaded and Awolnation, joined the rock group earlier this year following the departure of longtime drummer Frank Ferrer.
Guns N’ Roses tour has since sailed through Florianópolis, Argentina, following the Buenos Aires incident, and will continue at the Allianz Parque in São Paulo on October 25th, with more shows planned in Brazil and Peru before it concludes in Mexico City on November 8th.
