‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Ellen Pompeo was brought to tears by “uncomfortable” sex scene in series
Actor Ellen Pompeo, one of the stars of Grey’s Anatomy, has opened up about an “uncomfortable” sex scene in series five which reduced her to tears.
Pompeo has been a mainstay on the hit series since the start, appearing in all 21 series of Grey’s Anatomy despite no longer being a regular cast member. Now, she’s reflected upon her time in the beloved programme during a new appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Me Daddy podcast.
In series two, her character, Dr Meredith Grey, had a sex scene with her close friend TR Knight’s character, Dr George O’Malley which Pompeo says neither of them enjoyed or wanted to do.
She explained that Knight was the castmate she was closest to alongside Justin Chambers but said of their sex scene: “TR and I are such good friends. And we had to do a love scene and we were both crying. We cried. We cried.”
Pompeo continued: “And the scene was so uncomfortable and awkward and he didn’t wanna do that. I didn’t wanna do it. And when we filmed it, it was so bad.”
After the unenjoyable experience of filming the scene, the network then claimed “there was too much thrusting” and it had to be reshot. “In your worst nightmare to have to do it one time, we had to reshoot that shit,” she shared.
To this day, Pompeo has never seen the scene, “I’ve never seen it, but I don’t know how it was shot or covered or what the end, how it was edited, but I’m full on in tears, the whole entire scene.” The Grey’s Anatomy star then confirmed that she was instructed to cry during filming but said they were “real tears” she cried.
