Green Day announce new album ‘Saviors’ and share new single
American rock icons Green Day have returned with their new single ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, the first taste of their new album Saviours.
The trio are set to release their next album on January 19th, 2024. For the LP, Green Day reconvened with producer Rob Cavallo who previously worked with the band on the highly-acclaimed Dookie and American Idiot.
“As soon we cut it, we said, Okay, that’s going first,’” singer Billie Joe Armstrong says about ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, which opens their new album.
Expanding on the song’s meaning, Armstrong says ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ is “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people – in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
Green Day previously announced the release ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ during an intimate show on October 19th at Fremont Country Club. During the show, Armstrong informed the crowd: “I have a big announcement. It’s really big. Get your cameras ready.”
The new single has become a staple of Green Day’s set recently and was recently aired by the band during their headline performance at When We Were Young in Las Vegas on October 22nd. Elsewhere in their set, they treated the audience to classic cuts such as ‘American Idiot’, ‘Basket Case’, ’21 Guns’, ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’, and ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’.
Additionally, Green Day have revealed plans to tour stadiums across the United States throughout the summer of 2024. They will be joined on the adventure by The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Linda’s.
The Californian rockers have also stated they will bring the tour to the United Kingdom and Europe but are yet to officially announce those dates.
