Grammys 2025: Kendrick Lamar wins ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year’ for ‘Not Like Us’
One of the major music events of 2024 was the rap feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, which has culminated in Lamar picking up major accolades, including ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year’, at this year’s edition of the Grammys.
Following multiple back-and-forths between two of the biggest stars in rap, Lamar had the final say with the chilling ‘Meet the Grahams’ and the taunting, celebratory and conclusive ‘Not Like Us’, the latter of which became one of the most streamed songs of the year and made him a big winner at tonight’s ceremony.
Taking to the stage, Lamar paid tribute to his aunt, who recently passed away, after thanking God for his win: “She’s probably watching it up there, so make sure y’all got your smiles on right now. Make her feel right.”
Also addressing the ongoing fire-relief efforts in Los Angeles, Lamar said that his Grammy awards are for the city, talking about how his roots will always be inextricably linked to LA.
The rapper added: “We gonna dedicate this one to the city, Compton, Watts, Long Beach, Inglewood, Hollywood, out to the Valley… This is my neck of the woods that held me down since I was a young pup. I can’t give enough thanks to these places that I rode around since high school. Most importantly, the people and the families out in the Palisades and Altadena, this is a true testament that we can continue to restore this city.”
While Lamar has rounded off the rap feud with multiple Grammy wins in major categories, Drake has recently been widely criticised for launching legal action against Lamar’s label for releasing the diss tracks.
