Grammys 2018: LCD Soundsystem Win Best Dance Recording
LCD Soundsystem claimed Best Dance Recording at the 2018 Grammy Awards for their song ‘Tonite.
The track fended off fierce competition and won over tracks by the likes of Gorillaz, Bonobo, Odesza, and CamelPhat & Elderbrook in what proved their first ever victory at the Grammy’s. the track, taken from their comeback record American Dream, was also nominated for Best Alternative Music Album.
After the band announced their emotional disbandment in 2012, a hiatus that lasted nearly five years, LCD Soundsystem revealed their first album in seven years… and what a rebirth it has proven to be.
James Murphy explained how it was the late and great David Bowie who convinced him to get the band back together, so it was only fitting that Murphy and Co. would produce a record fittingly brilliant.
American Dream is urgent, it’s relevant and it touches on every anxiety and worry of today’s current climate; ‘American Dream’. If anything, the band have re-found their edge – if, of course, they ever really lost it at all.
