Gorillaz tease new collaboration with Octavian

Gorillaz have teased the next release from their Song Machine project as they hint at an upcoming collaboration with Octavian.

The band took to Twitter that the next instalment of Song MachineSeason One, Episode Four – will feature the French-born London raised rapper who won the BBC’s Sound of 2019 award and that the collaboration will be released soon.

Song Machine has seen the iconic act team up with a range of artists from different worlds ranging from the likes of Peter Hook to Skepta to Georgia to slowthai. The series kicked off with ‘Momentary Bliss’ with slowthai and Slaves in January, since then we’ve also seen them work with. The virtual band has also released collaborations with Fatoumata Diawara and more.

This upcoming collaboration with Octavian will be the first single Gorillaz have released since last month’s ‘How Far?’ with Skepta in tribute to late Nigerian drummer, Tony Allen, who also played on the track.

A few weeks ago, Damon Albarn and Gorillaz’s animated vocalist 2-D for a performance of ‘Aries’ — released in April with Peter Hook and Georgia — as part of a special at-home edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Last week, Gorillaz made a powerful statement following the brutal death of George Floyd at the hands of white officer Derek Chauvin. Stuart ‘2-D’ Pot, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs of Gorillaz then responded to the issue of police brutality in the United States.

“Gorillaz are enraged at the death of George Floyd and many before him at the hands of systemic racism and police brutality,” the band said in a statement issued on social media.

“It’s time to be the change and play an active part in the fight for justice and equality.”
