Gorillaz to play classic albums in full at upcoming 25th anniversary shows
Gorillaz have revealed they will perform their classic albums in full at their upcoming special shows in London to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Last week, the world’s most beloved virtual group announced details of four performances at the Copper Box Arena in London in late August and early September. Now, ahead of tickets going on general sale, Damon Albarn’s group have unveiled what each concert will entail.
The first performance, scheduled for August 29th, will feature Gorillaz performing their eponymous debut album in full at the Copper Box Arena and recreating their very first performances in 2001, which took place at London’s Scala and La Cigale in Paris.
The next show, taking place on August 30th, will see Gorillaz play Demon Days in full. They have only ever previously performed the 2005 record in full at Manchester Opera House and the Apollo in Harlem, which took place in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
September 2nd will be dedicated to Plastic Beach, which was last performed in its entirety by the band at London’s Roundhouse in 2010.
Details remain under wraps for the final concert of their Copper Box Arena residency on September 3rd, which they have described as a mystery show.
To commemorate their 25th anniversary, Gorillaz will open their new House of Kong. The venue will offer visitors access to the virtual band’s headquarters and document their history since their formation. House of King ticket holders have also received priority access to the Copper Box Arena shows.
Earlier this year, Albarn teased a new Gorillaz album, telling French publication Les Inrockuptibles, “I’m finishing a new Gorillaz album. One opera and one new Gorillaz album seems like enough for 2025! Unless someone accuses me of taking my foot off the gas!”
