Goose fire percussionist over “behaviour in personal life”

American rock band Goose have parted company with their percussionist, Jeff Arevalo, citing issues with “behaviour in([his)personal life that does not align with the band’s core values.”

The jam band, who hail from Wilton, Connecticut, made an announcement via their Instagram page, stating that their most recent tour was “an unexpected challenge to navigate.”

The statement read: “This is an incredibly unfortunate, unexpected situation, and we did not anticipate having to make another painful change to the band. However, it is clear that this is the only way forward as we remain committed to upholding the values that define our community, particularly when it comes to respecting others and creating a safe environment.”

It continued: “We’re feeling inspired to continue growing as a unit as we move into this next chapter, and are deeply grateful for everyone with us on this journey.”

Arevalo had previously disclosed in February that he was stepping back from touring to focus on his struggles with mental health. While he accepted the band’s decision to dismiss him from his role, he claimed in a response post, “I do not feel that I was rightly respected, valued or properly utilized in my time with the organization. ”

The drummer continued, “I have chosen to retain my dignity and my truth.”

Goose were formed in 2014 by vocalist and guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, bassist Trevor Weeks and drummer Ben Atkin. Arevalo had been a member of the band since 2020, performing duties as a percussionist, drummer and guitarist.

The band are currently gearing up to release their fourth studio album, Everything Must Go, in April, which will mark the last album to feature Arevalo as a member.
