Golden Globes 2026: Nikki Glaser reveals the one actor she can’t joke about

Nikki Glaser has looked forward to returning to the Golden Globes as host this weekend and named the one A-lister she can’t joke about with audiences.

Last year, Glaser, one of the leading stand-up comics in the US, became the first solo female host in the history of the Golden Globes, and it was such a rousing success that she was invited back for round two.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings, Glaser lifted the lid on her process, revealing that she has been testing out material at comedy clubs, which has taught her one valuable thing.

She shared, “I’m trying out my monologue around LA at the clubs here and just even any joke about Julia Roberts, they are not there for.”

“You cannot make fun of America’s sweetheart,” Glaser added of Roberts. “Whatever I end up saying about her, that is the most fine-tuned joke that I’ve worked on so hard, because it is very delicate.”

Glaser then went on to say that crowds have been “booing” her joke about Roberts, which she described as an “insane” reaction.

The comedian also told Yahoo about her struggles to get a laugh at the expense of the After The Hunt star, explaining, “She is the most sacred of cows in America. I assumed that we want to protect her at all costs, but it’s as if I was joking about JonBenét [Ramsey]. [Audiences] were like, ‘This is not funny. We’re not going to laugh about it.’”

Roberts is nominated in the ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’ category for After The Hunt, competing against the likes of Hamnet star Jessie Buckley and Sentimental Value’s Renate Reinsve.

The big frontrunner in the film categories is One Battle After Another, which leads the pack with a massive nine nominations, including for ‘Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ and ‘Best Leading Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles on January 11th, 2026.
