Golden Globes 2021 announces delayed date

The Golden Globes has followed the BAFTAs and Oscars by delaying the date of their 2021 event.

According to a press release, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC announced that the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place February 28, 2021.

The awards ceremony, which normally takes place at the beginning of January, has taken the original date occupied by the Oscars.

The event will continue to honour the best in film and television and, as previously announced, will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

“We are excited to announce the 78th annual Golden Globe® Awards, hosted by the dynamic Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2021,” organisers confirmed. “The ceremony will air live coast to coast 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET on NBC from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.”

The February 28th date became available after the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that the Oscars has been delayed until April.

The Golden Globes added: “To accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period, and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks.”
