Glastonbury 2025: Watch The Maccabees perform ‘First Love’ at historic comeback set
The Maccabees prove they are back in full force at a powerful Glastonbury Festival set that peaked with their 2007 hit ‘First Love’.
2025 marks the summer that The Maccabees make their huge return. As told to Far Out for our latest cover story, the Covid-19 pandemic was when the band first contemplated the prospect of returning. Frontman Orlando Weeks reflected: “There’s every chance that you don’t ever get to do this again, and there’s every chance that if you don’t take the opportunities, then you’ll regret them.”
The band certainly showed no regret as they kicked off their late-night set on The Park Stage with grins as wide as the crowd was long. They expertly ticked off tunes old and new for fans who likely saw the musicians last at their farewell shows in 2017.
A lot can change in eight years, but their sheer talent and evident love for the music have not. The crowd yelled and cheered as if they had never split up.
In the same conversation with Far Out, The Maccabees also looked ahead to this very Glastonbury performance. Felix White revealed that he had not attended the festival since the band last played Worthy Farm in 2015, “I remember years ago seeing Roots Manuva there. I think he was doing The Park stage, but he was saying down the mic, ‘It’s been ten years.’ I remember thinking like, ‘God, how long a period of time, ten years is,’ but when you get older, time shortens.”
Friday night at Glastonbury saw The 1975 headline the Pyramid Stage and Loyle Carner headline the Other Stage. On Saturday night, Charli XCX, Neil Young, Scissor Sisters and Doechii headlined each of the main stages. On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo will close the weekend.
