Glastonbury 2025: Watch Olivia Rodrigo cover The Cure with Robert Smith
During her headline performance closing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Olivia Rodrigo welcomed the gothfather, Robert Smith, for a cover of The Cure classics ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’.
The Cure frontman was somewhat of a surprise guest, but their double duet turned out to be one of the stand-out moments of the entire festival. Rodrigo was clearly delighted to perform with Smith, commenting, “He’s the coolest, nicest, most wonderful man in the world. And I’m so honoured to play with him.”
In his trademark low-key fashion, Smith simply wandered off the stage smiling. He is no stranger to the famed Pyramid Stage, The Cure have headlined the festival a whopping four times over the years. It’s certainly not beyond Rodrigo to match this feat, given her tender age.
The 22-year-old, who is making her Pyramid Stage debut after a barnstorming set on the Other Stage three years ago, has become the second-youngest artist to headline the festival, coming only behind Billie Eilish, who headlined in the same year.
Having opened with the high-octane one-two punch of ‘Obsessed’ and ‘Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl’, ‘Vampire’ comes as a slight change of pace, but shows the diversity and range of an artist that many were sceptical of having the mettle to take the closing headline slot.
With The 1975 having split opinion with their Friday night headline performance, and Neil Young putting on a spirited display despite having a fraction of the audience on Saturday, Rodrigo’s set appears to be off to a flying start, marking a spectacular way to close proceedings to an eventful year at Worthy Farm.
