Glastonbury 2025: Watch Alanis Morissette perform the iconic ‘Ironic’

Alanis Morissette made her Glastonbury debut on the Pyramid Stage on June 27th and proved herself as important as ever in the world of rock, rage, and female power.

The ‘Queen of Alt Rock Angst’ originally became a cultural phenomenon in the 1990s. She was known especially for her mezzo-soprano voice that brought fresh emotions to the surface when paired with her evocative and confessional songwriting.

The crowd didn’t miss a beat in response to the massive anthem playing out across the thousands upon thousands in attendance. “It’s like rain on your wedding day!” they sang with the seasoned musician, who proved that gumption and guts can sometimes age like fine wine. Plus, with the grey clouds collecting as the gates to the festival officially opened, the crowd knew of the anticipation of anticipating the worst.

Far Out previously celebrated her seminal album, Jagged Little Pill, writing, “When listening to Jagged Little Pill, though, any of Morissette’s songs could have worked on the radio then. This was the kind of blockbuster that let everyone know that the era for female rock stars was turning a corner, and even if Lilith Fair was becoming one of the biggest festivals in the world, no one seemed to be as heavy as Morissette could get when working on ‘You Oughta Know’ or ‘All I Really Want’.”

Her set came with an emotional intensity raised to the surface like goosebumps on skin. Speaking to NPR in 2012, Morissette acknowledged the liberating impact of the anger she had unleashed in her music, which she continues to champion at the fabulous Glastonbury set.

At the time, she said, “If there were to be any quality I become a poster child [for], I’ll take anger, because as a woman, two of the main emotions that we are, quote-unquote, ‘not allowed’ to feel are anger and sadness. That anger is such a powerful life force, and I think it can move worlds. It is behind every activism and every [act] that I do. Anger fuels it.”

Later this evening, indie-pop legends The 1975 will headline the Pyramid Stage and perform their only show of 2025. Loyle Carner will take to The Other Stage. Across the weekend, the likes of Charli XCX, Neil Young, CMAT, and Pinkpantheress will perform, alongside hundreds of other names and some secret sets spanning 100 stages, too.
