Glastonbury 2025: Tickets sell out in 35 minutes
General sale tickets for next year’s Glastonbury Festival sold out in just 35 minutes on November 17th.
The general release went on sale at 9am on November 17th, and all tickets were gone by 9:35am. This is the eighth consecutive year that tickets to the festival have sold out in under an hour. The festival will take place from June 25th to June 29th, 2025.
The cost of a ticket for the festival this year was increased by £18.50, meaning that those looking to purchase a ticket were spending £373.50 plus a £5 booking fee which is the most the festival has ever cost in its history.
Furthermore, a new ticketing system was introduced this year, although this did not improve the general purchasing experience. Some people attempting to buy tickets were left disappointed, as the new queueing system left them staring at loading screens or being told that their registration numbers that they were required to apply for prior to the general sale were invalid. However, this is a simple case of demand far outweighing the supply of tickets.
In previous years, the compulsory registration and ticket system has failed for a number of users, with festival-goers complaining that despite attempts to refresh the checkout page, they were left empty-handed. Like every year, the updated system only allowed punters to buy a maximum of six tickets each.
Roughly 210,000 people attended the annual festival at Worthy Farm, Somerset in 2024, although it has not been officially announced whether this is how many tickets went on sale for the 2025 edition.
Founded in 1970 by local dairy farmer Michael Eavis, Glastonbury has grown to become the largest music and arts festival in the UK and is celebrated as one of the most well-known festivals worldwide.
There will be a re-sale for all tickets that are unable to be used or that have been unclaimed in Spring 2025, which has also sold out very quickly in previous years.
The headliners for the 2024 festival were Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA, with Shania Twain filling the legends slot on the final day.
What do we know about Glastonbury 2025 so far?
There has been much speculation as to who will be announced as a headliner for next year’s edition of the festival. Early rumours suggest Stevie Wonder, Sam Fender, and Olivia Rodrigo are favourites to play the coveted slot on the festival’s iconic Pyramid Stage. Another rumour being tipped for the 2025 festival is that Cher will perform in the legends slot on the Sunday afternoon of the event. However, currently, this is all speculation with no acts officially announced.
In recent years, the festival’s headliners have become a lot more diverse, with rappers Jay-Z, Kanye West and Stormzy having all topped the bill, and hard rock acts Guns ‘N’ Roses and Metallica also headlining the festival. The festival had previously been known to stick to classic pop and rock acts for their headliners, with last year’s Saturday headliners Coldplay becoming the first act to headline the festival a total of five times.
The 2024 festival lineup was not announced until March this year, just three months before the festival took place. It is unknown whether the announcement will be earlier for the 2025 edition, or if any artists will announce themselves as performers prior to the official announcement.
