Glastonbury 2025: Festival sold less tickets to stop overcrowding

Glastonbury Festival‘s Emily Eavis has revealed they cut back on ticket sales in order to prevent overcrowding at this year’s event.

Later this month, Britain’s biggest music festival is set to take place in Somerset with huge names such as The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, Neil Young, Charli XCX, Raye and hundreds more are set to descend upon Worthy Farm.

Now, in a new interview with Sidetracked by Glastonbury on BBC Sounds, Eavis shared: “The other thing is that we’ve sold a few thousand less tickets. So it’ll be interesting just to see how that affects the dynamics on site. So apart from what I was saying about telling people to use different routes and to use the whole site, but also just to see if there’s a few thousand less can make an impact on some of the busier times.”

Host Nick Grimshaw then asked Eavis about the predicament of booking artists such as Charli XCX and Doechii, who have increased in popularity since the agreement was reached, and how they plan to prevent the crowds from becoming too big.

Eavis responded: “The app was really accurate last year. So we were getting a lot of feedback from, so people plan what they’re gonna see. We can see what they’re gonna see, which is really useful for us from a crowd perspective. So we can say, red, orange, green. And we are like, okay, this is looking like it’s gonna be a red, so the chances are, if it’s gonna be busy, the field might have to be closed, right?”

Elsewhere in the conversation, they discussed the mysterious identity of Patchwork, who are due to play a prominent slot on the Pyramid Stage on June 28th with Eavis sharing: “I’ve been working on Patchwork for a long time, I tell you what, pretty much since I saw you this time last year I’ve been working on Patchwork.”

Eavis explained why it has taken almost a year to secure their confirmation at Worthy Farm, saying the reasoning is “more logistical.”

However, after Sam Fender, Haim, Lorde, and Robbie Williams were mentioned as possible contenders for Patchwork, Eavis didn’t give away any clues, simply replying, “Oh gosh, so many good names.”

Glastonbury Festival is set to take place between June 27th and June 29th, with Far Out set to deliver coverage directly from Worthy Farm.
