Glastonbury 2025: Festival go-oers urged to get MMR jab in light of measles warning
Glastonbury attendees have been urged to get a measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) jab before heading to the festival in light of a new outbreak.
According to ITV News, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned that several “highly infectious illnesses” are circulating in the South West of England and London.
The UK government issued a warning on June 5th. UKHSA data revealed that there were 86 cases of measles in the UK in May and 109 cases in April. London has seen the highest number so far this year, making up 39% of the 420 confirmed measles cases since January 1st.
Speaking to ITV News, UKHSA South West’s Health Protection consultant Dr Alasdair Wood stated, “We want festivalgoers to enjoy their time at Glastonbury and other festivals this year. Being aware of the current health risks will help those attending enjoy their time, as much as possible.”
He continued, “Measles is circulating across the country, and festivals are the perfect place for measles to spread. If you’re not fully vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella, please contact your GP to see if you can get an appointment before coming to the festival… If you feel unwell or have been advised to isolate as a result of measles or another infection, please continue to do so.”
The warning applies especially to people born between 1970 and 1990, as this age group may not have received doses to protect against all three infections. Measles can spread easily through breathing, coughing, and sneezing. As the festival will bring thousands into close proximity, preventative measures have never been more important.
Glastonbury Festival is set to take place between June 27th and June 29th, with Far Out set to deliver coverage directly from Worthy Farm. The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo will headline the Pyramid Stage. Meanwhile, Charli XCX, Loyle Carner, and The Prodigy will headline The Other Stage.
