Glastonbury 2024: Watch The xx reunite for first time in six years during Jamie xx’s set

During Jamie xx’s headline set on the Woodsies Stage at Glastonbury Festival on June 28th, he welcomed Oliver Sim and Romy to the stage to form a surprise reunion with The xx.

While the group are still active, they hadn’t performed as a trio since 2018, and their comeback was a welcome surprised. Since they last played together, all three members of The xx have pursued successful solo careers with Jamie taking to the decks at Glastonbury to headline a jam-packed Woodsies.

It comes after Jamie recently announced details of his long-awaited second album, In Waves, set for release on September 20th. He said of the nine-year wait between solo projects: “It’s been a while… and a lot has happened in that time. Ups and downs, growing up, figuring stuff out and then forgetting it all many times over.”

At Glastonbury, Jamie previewed material from the forthcoming record, but it wouldn’t be right if he didn’t also take a trip down memory lane. In addition to revisiting beloved creations from his first record, In Colour, Sim and Romy joined him for the party.

Although Sim isn’t on the line-up at Glastonbury, Romy is scheduled to perform at Woodsies on June 30th. The singer, who released her debut solo album Mid Air last year, also made a surprise appearance during Charli XCX’s set at Levels.

After they both arrived on-stage, the trio premiered the new track, ‘Waited All Night’, which is set to appear on Jamie’s forthcoming album and features both Sim and Romy.

The carnival atmosphere was ramped up when they then performed The xx’s famous cover of ‘You’ve Got The Love’, which was originally performed by The Source and Candi Staton before Florence and The Machine had a hit with it in 2009.

Elsewhere on June 28th, the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury was headlined by Dua Lipa with Idles taking to the Other Stage and Fontaines D.C. closing the Park Stage.

In a four-star review of Fontaines D.C.’s performance, Far Out wrote: “Fontaines’ set was an indisputable highlight of Friday at Glastonbury, as everybody in the packed-out Park crowd can attest. As the band continue to develop musically, with an eagerly anticipated new album on the horizon, they show no signs of stepping away from the limelight any time soon.”

Coldplay are set to take to the Pyramid Stage on June 29th, meanwhile, other acts set to appear across the stages include Disclosure, The Streets, Yard Act, Sleaford Mods, Camila Cabello, Little Simz and Michael Kiwanuka.

Glastonbury Festival runs from June 26th until June 30th, and Far Out is on the ground at Worthy Farm to provide coverage directly. This year’s event is headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
