Glastonbury 2024: Watch Kasabian perform ‘Club Foot’ during secret set

During their secret set on Woodsies at Glastonbury Festival, British indie legends Kasabian opened by playing their classic anthem, ‘Club Foot’.

The secret set kicked off at 6:00pm on June 29th and saw the Serge Pizzorno-fronted Leicester outfit perform a career-spanning collection of tracks. Prior to them filling the slot marked ‘TBA’ on the lineup, various acts had been speculated to be those who might perform it, with the likes of Dave Grohl, Noel Gallagher, and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig spotted side of the stage during LCD Soundsystem’s performance on the Pyramid Stage on Friday evening, but the slot belonged to Kasabian.

Another group people figured might be well placed to fill the intriguing ‘TBA’ slot on Woodsies was Kings of Leon. The ‘Sex on Fire’ group are currently touring the UK, and eagle-eyed fans have noted that ahead of headlining London’s BST Hyde Park on June 30th, they have a gap in the diary. This meant it was not unfeasible for them to bring their latest effort, Can We Please Have Fun, and a long list of older anthems to Worthy Farm.

The group even stoked speculation themselves by sharing footage from their most recent performance at Glastonbury on social media. Yet, it was all a rouse for their entertainment. On June 29th, bassist Jared Followill took to X to deny the rumours.

On Saturday afternoon, Kasabian confirmed on social media that they were playing the secret set. Bookmakers halted taking bets on the possibility weeks ago, which suggested then that they knew the Leicester rockers were confirmed to play the festival.

Before they arrived on stage, mass crowds gathered in the Woodsies area which forced Glastonbury to shut off the section for safety purposes. The high demand to see Kasabian should come as no shock, as they are still a festival headliner across the UK, and those fortunate enough to gain entry into the tent didn’t take the experience for granted. Perhaps, they’ll be invited back to the Pyramid Stage in 2025.

Prior to Kasabian verifying the news, the reliable X account, Secret Glasto, had already all but done so. They wrote on June 29th: “For the avoidance of doubt and the benefit of the hard of thinking/heavily intoxicated, the Woodsies TBA at 1800 is KASABIAN. Have fun x”.

Notably, the band headlined Glastonbury in 2014, and will release their new album Happenings on July 5th. Their secret set was a perfect way to usher in the latest chapter, which will also see them return home for a massive outdoor show at Leceister’s Victoria Park on July 6th.

Kasabian’s performance was a resounding one, showing that the group still have it after the departure of original frontman Tom Meighan in 2020, with guitarist and vocalist Pizzorno already a stellar performer and seamlessly taking the mantle. While they played many anthems, ‘Club Foot’ from their 2004 self-titled debut was a highlight. Featuring a gigantic opening burst, iconic bassline, and timeless groove, it sent the crowd wild, with Pizzorno’s opening line: “One, take control of me?” echoing back at him throughout the tent.

In a jam-packed day that has seen Mannequin Pussy make a significant statement calling out the BBC and performances from The Last Dinner Party and Bloc Party across Worthy Farm ahead of Coldplay headlining the Pyramid Stage tonight.
