Glastonbury 2024: The National joined by special guests This Is The Kit
During their headline performance on The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival, The National performed ‘Rylan’ with the assistance of Kate Stables, better known as This Is The Kit.
The track in question appeared on the band’s 2019 album, I Am Easy To Find, which saw The National collaborate with a series of female vocalists across the record. Stables appeared on the original version of ‘Rylan’ from I Am Easy To Find, as well as the record’s title track, and ‘Not In Kansas’.
In addition to appearing on three tracks on I Am Easy To Find, Stables also joined The National on their worldwide tour to promote the album. Furthermore, on July 4th, Stables is set to join the American rockers when they arrive in Manchester to perform at Castlefield Bowl.
While speaking to Under The Radar in 2020, Stables explained how she began her working relationship with The National, stating, “Bryce [Dessner] used to live in Paris and they were my big sister’s mates. I didn’t do anything with them properly until Wriggle Out the Restless had come out.”
She continued: “We were doing a gig in some little basement in London and some of the guys from The National came along. Aaron [Dessner] was really into it and bought a CD and later on asked if [their label] Brassland could re-release the album.”
Stables also said of making I Am Easy To Find and the subsequent tour: “I was on the record and I was available. I also probably fit the ‘not a nightmare to tour with’ category.”
The National’s headline set on the Other Stage has brought a memorable Glastonbury Festival to an end, with the band exclaiming why they are one of the most influential indie acts of the modern era. Other highlights of the set include their ode to the hometown on ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’ and ‘England’, which always goes down well on this soil.
Glastonbury has been full of seismic moments. On Friday night, Dua Lipa rose to the occasion during her headline set, and notably welcomed Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to the stage for a thrilling rendition of ‘The Less I Know The Better’.
Meanwhile, Coldplay attracted the biggest crowd of the weekend for their headline set on June 29th with over 100,000 in attendance. They began their career-spanning set by taking things back to the start with ‘Yellow’ and finished up with latest single, ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’.
