Glastonbury 2024: Kings of Leon rule themselves out of secret set

After Kings of Leon were rumoured to feature in the prominent special guests slot scheduled in for the Woodsies Stage at Glastonbury Festival at 6:00pm on June 29th, the band have ruled themselves out of appearing.

Kings of Leon are currently on tour across the United Kingdom, and have a gap in their diary today ahead of headlining BST Hyde Park in London on June 30th. Therefore, it seemed feasible that the American rockers would be bringing their latest album, Can We Please Have Fun, to Worthy Farm, but it has now been denied.

The group, who headlined Glastonbury in 2008, played into the speculation by recently sharing footage from their last performance at the festival on social media, sending the rumour mill into overdrive. However, this was seemingly Kings of Leon pulling the leg of their fans rather than announcing an appearance.

On June 29th, bassist Jared Followill shared on X: “Everybody keeps telling me we’re playing a secret gig at Glastonbury today. Somebody has to tell our manager, booking agent, singer, etc.. ASAP.”

In response to a fan who replied, “Does the bassist know?!”, Followill jokingly responded, “I guess there is a small chance they’re actually playing without me. I still would have at least liked to watch the show.”

Followill also looked ahead to their performance at Hyde Park in London on June 30th, confirming he was in the capital rather than in Somerset, writing, “Ok. London weather feels like Los Angeles right now. Playing BST Hyde Park tomorrow. Vibes this high might technically be illegal.”

While there is still a ‘TBA’ slot to be filled on the Woodsies Stage, it seems Kasabian, who previously headlined the festival in 2014, will be the act who appears. The Leicester indie band are set to release their new album, Happenings, on July 5th, and a televised slot at Glastonbury would act as the perfect way to launch the project.

The ever-reliable X account, Secret Glasto, has since confirmed that Kasabian would be appearing at Woodsies. They wrote on June 29th: “For the avoidance of doubt and the benefit of the hard of thinking/heavily intoxicated, the Woodsies TBA at 1800 is KASABIAN. Have fun x”.

On June 28th, the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury was headlined by Dua Lipa with Idles taking to the Other Stage and Fontaines D.C. closing the Park Stage.

In a four-and-a-half star review of Idles’ set at Worthy Farm, Far Out wrote: “With their rough as sandpaper punk, Idles delivered the perfect antidote to the polished pop from Dua Lipa a short walk away on the Pyramid Stage. Evidently enthused to have been given such a prominent slot, the socially conscious screamers captured the energy of a firecracker let off in an elevator. Easily one of the most full-throttle and affecting sets of Glastonbury Festival so far.”

Glastonbury Festival runs from June 26th until June 30th, and Far Out is on the ground at Worthy Farm to provide coverage directly. This year’s event is headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
