Gilla Band share first single in four years, ‘Giraffe’, and announce huge tour
Dublin noise rockers Gilla Band have returned with their first single in almost four years, titled ‘Giraffe’.
Vocalist Dara Kiely, guitarist Alan Duggan Borges, bassist Daniel Fox, and drummer Adam Faulkner have dived deep into the rattled modern psyche on the track, which opens with the lyrics, “Wine rings on the highchair, today the world woke you up without you.”
Kiely explains of the abrasive song, “In this track, the first few sections represent what my general headspace is like. It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what I’m actually thinking.”
The track, released via Rough Trade Records, will also be given a limited pressing on seven-inch picture disc vinyl.
This October, the band will embark on a North American tour, beginning in Philadelphia on October 14th. After a month-long adventure, in January, they will return to Europe for shows in Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, and more.
Gilla Band will also be performing live on a short run of UK dates next year, including on February 10th at Bristol’s Trinity, February 11th at London’s Heaven, February 12th at Manchester’s Band On The Wall, and, finally, February 13th at Glasgow’s Grand Classic.
Far Out included the band’s last album, Most Normal, in the list for the Top 50 Albums of 2022, observing that the album “sees the band get more experimental than ever before, this time heavily leaning into the electronic realm. Most Normal is more visceral than any of their other albums and more consistent, with frontman Dara Kiely’s vocals unbelievably haunting at points.”
