A 76-year-old man in Germany has left a Pablo Picasso owl sculpture on the train.

The incident, which happened on 15th February and was between Kassel and Dusseldorf stations, occurred when the man was catching a connecting train and he accidentally left the 10-inch ceramic Picasso jug on the train.

The sculpture is part of only 500 limited edition ceramics from Picasso’s Owl Series and is worth in excess of €10,000 (£8,600). Made in 1953 in his French Madoura studio, the work is highly regarded as some of his finest. It sold with another in the collection at auction in 2016 for €15,000.

The German Federal Police have called it an act of “momentous forgetfulness”, calling for witnesses to help find the piece. according to German news site WD. Despite the help from the police the Picasso owl statue is still missing… and we’d imagine it might stay that way
