My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has revealed to his friend Geoff Rickly that if My Chemical Romance had stayed broken up for too much longer they never would have gotten back together.
The revelation comes as the band ready for their dramatic live return next month with Rickly’s band, Thursday, offering ample support in L.A. for what will be a triumphant emo night.
Rickly spoke with Way about why the band had decided to suddenly go for it when reuniting after seven years out of My Chemical Romance. “I spoke to Gerard [Way] about the reunion a little bit recently and he said it felt like it was the right time,” he told Kerrang!
“One of the things he said was, ‘I don’t know if it would have happened if it wasn’t now.’ And I got what he meant by that.” He continued, “At some point, it just becomes too long, like, ‘I don’t think I can get back there, personally. It’s just too distant and too weird.’ So I’m glad that they’re doing it. I think it’s amazing. And no matter what, I’m going.”
Now the pair will join forces to give a whole bunch of fans a night to remember as they take to the Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall on December 20th to give an emo performance that only your high school dreams were made of.
