George Clooney details touching video message Paul McCartney sent on his 64th birthday: “One of the greats of all time”

George Clooney has opened up about his friendship with Paul McCartney, and revealed how The Beatles legend celebrated his recent landmark birthday.

Clooney turned 64 in 2025, which, of course, is an occasion that makes any fan of the Fab Four listen to their classic song, ‘When I’m 64‘.

McCartney initially wrote the song as a teenager, as he dreamt about what the future might hold for him when he was an old man and aged 64.

In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Clooney said of his most recent birthday, “I actually got a message from Paul, which is pretty cool.”

He then revealed precisely what the video entailed, revealing to the jealousy of every other 64-year-old Beatles fan, “Yeah, it was a video of him playing ‘When I’m 64′.”

The Jay Kelly star then explained how becoming friends with McCartney will never quite sink in, adding, “I never really thought when I was cutting tobacco in Augusta, Ky., that I would meet Paul, much less become friends with him.”

Heaping further praise on McCartney, he continued, “I feel very in awe. In the scheme of people, you look at Michael Jordan as the best to ever play the game. Paul’s got to be in the conversation as one of the greats of all time. So it’s really something to have him call up and do ‘When I’m 64’ for you.”

Meanwhile, on January 11th, Clooney is set to compete in the ‘Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ at the Golden Globes for his performance in Jay Kelly.

Additionally, it was confirmed today (January 8th) that Clooney would also serve as a guest presenter at the ceremony alongside other stars such as Julia Roberts, Amanda Seyfried, Kevin Hart, Charli XCX, Colman Domingo, Ana de Armas, Will Arnett and Snoop Dogg.
