George Clooney reveals role Brad Pitt still teases him about: “I was annoyed”

George Clooney has opened up about the one role in his career that Brad Pitt still makes fun of him for, and it’s a role Clooney didn’t even land.

Clooney’s latest picture, the Noah Baumbach movie Jay Kelly, sees the seasoned star play a famous movie actor who goes on a European road trip with his manager, played by Adam Sandler, to confront his past and personal life.

Though Clooney can undoubtedly relate to this level of success, there was a time when he didn’t have such a smooth run.

Speaking to The Times about his career, the star revealed a failure that still haunts him: missing out on playing the role of JD in the cult film Thelma and Louise. He laughed, “I got to the final test for a role in Thelma and Louise. And, motherfucker, Brad got it.”

Clooney was bitter for a very long time. He admitted, “I didn’t watch Thelma and Louise for years because I was annoyed. The part launched his career in film. He was doing sitcoms and crap before, so when it was the thing that could’ve launched me? Fuck!”

When asked whether Pitt knows about this secret anger harboured previously by Clooney, the star revealed, “Oh yeah, he gives me shit. But, of course, when I saw it, I was, like, well, it had to be that guy.”

At one point in the movie, Pitt’s hitch-hiking no-gooder removes his shirt. Clooney’s Jay Kelly co-star, Sandler, references the moment, reminiscing, “I saw that at the cinema and when Brad took his shirt off people went nuts. But it should have been you, Clooney.”

Pitt and Clooney are set to reunite on Ocean’s 14, which will begin production next year.

Clooney broke this exciting news himself, sharing at the New York Film Festival, “We just got the budget approved at Warner Brothers, and we’re trying to set up. It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us.”
