George Clooney responds after Donald Trump says he “wasn’t a movie star at all”

George Clooney has hit back at Donald Trump after the president celebrated news of the Hollywood star securing French citizenship.

The escalation of their feud comes after Trump took to Truth Social to first attack Clooney earlier this year in response to his remarks regarding the CBS and ABC lawsuits, describing the Jay Kelly star as “a second rate movie star and failed political pundit”.

On New Year’s Eve, Trump unleashed a new rant at Clooney, who is a prominent supporter of the Democrats, declaring on Truth Social that his French citizenship is “Good News” before attacking his politics.

Trump posted, “Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz [sic], Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat.”

He then claimed that Clooney is more well-known for his politics than his movie career, adding, “Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies.”

Trump continued, “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In response to Trump’s comments, Clooney said, “I totally agree with the current president”. He then seemingly alluded to the upcoming midterm elections later this year, adding, “We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”

Additionally, earlier this week, in a new interview with Variety, Clooney reflected on their past friendship, stating, “I knew him very well. He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon.”

Clooney continued, “I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”
