Geezer Butler reveals he is having “nightmares” ahead of Black Sabbath reunion show
Geezer Butler has revealed that he is having “nightmares” and “palpitations” about Black Sabbath’s upcoming final farewell show this July.
The bassist was speaking to The Guardian on May 2nd about the band’s stratospheric career as it reaches its conclusion with their farewell gig at their native Villa Park on July 5th.
However, despite high expectations for the concert, several major doubts have been cast over the state of frontman Ozzy Osbourne’s health and whether he will be able to perform at all, let alone to the standard fans and critics are awaiting to be pulled off.
In light of this, Butler said: “I’m already having palpitations,” before adding, “In fact, I had a nightmare last night. I dreamed everything went wrong on stage and we all turned to dust. It’s important that we leave a great impression, since it’s the final time that people will experience us live. So it has to be great on the night.”
It comes as speculation over Osbourne’s health and contribution to the gig continues to mount, with Van Halen singer Sammy Hager confirming that the frontman will only have the stamina to perform five songs on the night.
In April, Osbourne revealed that he is in training for the concert, saying that “it really is like starting from scratch.” On that front, Tony Iommi noted in Butler’s latest interview: “I think Ozzy might be on some kind of throne, but I’m in the dark as much as anybody else.”
Black Sabbath will perform at the Villa Park gig with a string of other bands and artists including the most recently announced acts, Steven Tyler and Soundgarden.
The concert will benefit the charities Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.
