Gary Glitter charged with historical child sex offences
Former pop star Gary Glitter is facing charges in relation to alleged historical sex offences against a child.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has been charged by the Metropolitan Police for a slew of alleged offences against a child between 1978 and 1981.
Gadd has been charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
In a statement, Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service in London, confirmed, “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Paul Gadd with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.”
David added, “This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse that took place between 1978 and 1981.”
She states that prosecutors “worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so” and said the CPS “worked closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the allegation”.
The 82-year-old was previously brought in for questioning on July 22nd, 2025, after the allegations were brought forward to the Metropolitan Police on January 9th, 2025.
The Metropolitan Police also confirmed that “the victim is currently being supported by specialist officers and they have been made aware of this update”.
Gadd, who is currently being held at HMP Cannings Wood in Devon, is due to appear at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5th.
