Fyre Festival is now available to buy on eBay
Billy McFarland has listed Fyre Festival for sale on eBay, starting the auction at just one cent.
McFarland’s decision to list the intellectual property for the event on the online auction house comes after the businessman recently claimed an alleged seven-figure deal to sell the brand had unexpectedly fallen through.
The Fyre Festival founder said: “We had a seven-figure deal for the complete Fyre brand and IP package that fell through this morning.”
The prospective deal that fell through is linked to staging live events under the Fyre Festival name, which is separate from McFarland’s agreement with tech entrepreneur Shawn Rech, who has secured several trademarks from McFarland ahead of launching a Fyre streaming service.
Now, in a new twist, taking to Instagram, McFarland declared his plans to sell the brand which he claimed to be his “craziest” idea yet, sharing, “Today I am taking the most famous festival brand, Fyre Festival, and putting it up for auction on eBay starting at one cent.”
McFarland claims to have received “over 1,000 offers” to buy the Fyre Festival brand, but none of them have met his standard. As a result, he said, “I am done playing games”.
As of writing, the listing has received a bid worth over $200,000 and it boasts including access to social media accounts, brand name, email lists, artists relationships, and a Caribbean festival location option.
The eBay listing also reads: “Since 2017, Fyre Festival has dominated global headlines, generating over 32 billion online impressions — more than any other US festival brand. Now, the Fyre brand is for sale — a rare opportunity to acquire a globally recognized media engine with unmatched viral equity.”
The online auction for Fyre Festival is set to end on July 15th.
Fyre Festival 2 was scheduled to go ahead in Mexico earlier this year, but after a series of major complications, such as securing artists to perform and a location to host the event, it didn’t take place.
