Fyre Festival 2 is officially cancelled
The organisers of Fyre Festival 2 have confirmed that the festival will no longer be taking place in the Mexican resort town of Playa Del Carmen. The announcement comes after Fyre Festival 2 stated on its website that the event had been postponed, causing confusion among ticket holders.
Billy McFarland, the festival’s promoter, told NBC that the date of the festival depends entirely on the location. Subsequently, it’s unclear whether the plans to hold a multiday festival over the next month could change or if it has been pushed back until later this year
In another statement to ticket holders, the organisers of Fyre Festival told them that the event would definitely go ahead albeit in an unknown location at an unspecified time.
“FYRE Festival 2 is still on,” they said, “We are vetting new locations and will announce our host destination soon. Our priorities remain unchanged: delivering an unforgettable, safe, and transparent experience.”
Despite the organiser’s insistence that the festival would go ahead, they told ticket holders on the site, “FYRE Festival 2 is postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date in the future.”
There was doubt cast on the future of the festival when government officials of Playa Del Carmen, which is where the festival was supposed to be held, confirmed that they hadn’t had any communication from organisers about holding the event there. “After a thorough review,” they said, “There is no record or planning of any such event in the municipality.”
The promoters are adamant that they have been in communication with government officials and that the lack of cooperation from those at Playa Del Carmen has caused the festival to move locations, hence the sudden postponement of the event.
“You can’t make this stuff up,” they said, “When a government takes your money, issues permits, promotes the event, and then pretends it’s never heard of you, that’s not just dishonest – it’s theft. Due to this, we have decided to move FYRE Festival 2 elsewhere.”
The future of Fyre Festival 2 remains in contention as it is currently postponed, and finding a location that will hold the high-risk festival may prove incredibly difficult.
