Fyre Festival attempts further rebrand into hotel experience
The ill-fated Fyre Festival has taken on yet another business venture, this time pivoting to rebrand as a hotel experience.
On June 2nd, the brand announced a pop-up Fyre Hotels experience, which will run between September 3rd and 10th this year at the Coral View Utila in Honduras, the Caribbean.
According to the hotel’s newly-launched website, original notorious founder Billy McFarland seems to be back on board for the experience, after previously stating that he was stepping away from the brand.
The website explains that the idea for Fyre Hotels was born out of the experience that inspired the initial Fyre Festival, as it says that McFarland was inspired to leave New York in search of fresh beginnings in the Caribbean.
“Along the way, Billy overshot, ran out of gas, and was saved by a landing strip on a remote island,” it adds. “The magic of the island created a legend that quickly spread back home. These trips grew from a single engine propeller plane with four crazy entrepreneurs to the talent lead and adventure infused trips that became Fyre Festival.”
There are a range of package options available at the hotel, with the price range for a single person per night ranging from $199.53 to $500.
The latest hotel venture comes after the Fyre brand was reportedly being turned into a streaming service back in April, following Fyre Festival II being indefinitely postponed in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, which had originally been set to take place in May.
McFarland subsequently put the brand up for sale after he served four years in jail for the fraud committed at the first Fyre Festival, but with the nature of the new hotel rebrand, it seems the founder could be back on board.
