Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes recruit IDLES’ Joe Talbot on ‘My Town’
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have made a comeback in devilish style with their new single ‘My Town’, which sees them join forces with IDLES frontman Joe Talbot.
Ever since the former Gallows frontman formed The Rattlesnakes in 2015, they have been growing with each passing year, culminating in a headline show at Alexandra Palace in February 2020. Following that show, they were forced to slow things down, like everybody else, thanks to the pandemic.
The last year has given Carter a chance for contemplation, and ‘My Town’ is a ferocious comeback that is crammed full of ruthless barbarity as two of the greatest contemporary punk frontman square up head-to-head. Carter says in the press release that ‘My Town’ is a metaphor for “our collective mental health falling apart”, and that message is one that they shout down the track at break-neck speed.
Talbot crossed paths with Carter after the latter went to an IDLES show and was reduced to tears, noting, “they had a tremendous effect on me”. The love was mutual, and a friendship formed from that day, eventually resulting in the monstrous new track, ‘My Town’.
Carter added: “It’s easy to dissociate when it’s someone else’s problem, but we are each responsible for keeping the streets clean, looking out for our fellow neighbours and acting with kindness and respect as we walk through life.
“We can look into this town and see the seedy underbelly, the dirt, the disdain, the undercurrent of hate and despair. And then we are reminded that My Town looks just like yours, and no one gives a fuck at all and if we don’t start looking after ourselves soon then we are all going to be in big trouble”.
There’s a high crossover between lovers of IDLES and devout followers of Carter’s church, so understandably, this collaboration is one that’s going to get tail’s uncontrollably wagging. The duo delivers the heat on ‘My Town’, and with a little helping hand from Talbot, The Rattlesnakes drop a grenade with their comeback single.
