Founding member Tony McCarroll breaks silence on Oasis reunion: “The world is excited to see this”
Tony McCarroll, the founding drummer of Oasis, has sent a message of support to the band ahead of their upcoming reunion this summer.
Along with Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, and Tony McGuigan, McCarroll founded the seminal rock icons. However, he departed in 1995 and was replaced by Alan White in the group.
While McCarroll only played on their debut album, Definitely Maybe, and ‘Some Might Say’ from the follow-up record, he remains a vital part of Oasis’ history and played a seismic role in their journey to world domination.
Now, for the first time since their reunion was announced last August, McCarroll has spoken about their comeback, writing on Instagram, “Almost a lifetime ago, a few Burnage lads got together and created something special. Something that time can’t out date, the start of a wave that’s evidently still rolling with the last real band before the world changed.”
The drummer, who chronicled his time in Oasis in his 2010 memoir, added, “Oasis captured the time and minds of the people; we were the same as them, and they felt it. The connection.”
Although McCarroll is not set to take part in the reunion, he believes the time is right judging from the younger audiences that have started attending his Q&A events, noting, “The circle has started again lads. A new generation ready to start a journey of listening. Actually, I’m a bit jealous of that blank canvas they’re about to start on.”
He also wished the band his best wishes for the tour, continuing, “I’d like to put these words out there. Lads, the world is excited to see this, it’s all people are talking about. The time ‘feels’ right, I can’t wait to see how it all goes down.”
McCarroll then made it clear that he’s willing to play a tiny part in the reunion if they pick up the phone, stating, “Good luck with everything, and don’t forget to stop and take it in! If the drummer fancies a stage partner for Supersonic at Heaton Park, give us a buzz”.
The drummer poignantly concluded: “What we started back in The Boardwalk days, has become this. Be proud. I fuckin am! Enjoy it”.
The highly-anticipated Oasis tour is set to begin on July 4th at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Oasis will then play numerous shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, Croke Park in Dublin as well as at Wembley Stadium.
Once they finish up in the UK, Oasis will head to North America for a series of stadium dates, and will also take their reunion to South America, Australia, Korea, and Japan.
