Footballer Jorginho Frello slams Chappell Roan and her security team for mistreating daughter

Brazilian footballer Jorginho Frello has accused Chappell Roan‘s security team of acting aggressively toward his 11-year-old daughter at a São Paulo hotel after her performance at Lollapalooza Brazil.

Frello, who plays for Flamengo, took to Instagram to recall a “very upsetting situation” with his wife and daughter while they were staying at the same hotel as Roan during the festival.

“My daughter woke up incredibly excited,” he wrote. “She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire.” Frello went on to describe an incident in which his daughter recognised Roan at another table during breakfast at the hotel and decided to walk past her to make sure “it was really her”.

“She just passed by the singer’s table, looked over to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to the table with her mom,” he wrote, adding that she “didn’t say anything” or “ask for anything” as she walked past Roan.

According to Frello, a “large” member of Roan’s security team then approached their table and spoke “extremely aggressively” to his wife and daughter, accusing his daughter of “disrespect” and “harassment” before filing a complaint against them to the hotel.

“My daughter got super scared and cried a lot,” Frello continued. “Honestly, I don’t know in what world just passing by a table and looking can be considered harassment.” He also said that, as a footballer, he understands boundaries and “what happened here was not that”, before slamming Roan’s treatment of her fans, saying that without them, “you would be nobody”.

This comes amid ongoing discourse around Roan’s relationship with fame and the press, which she has repeatedly addressed since the explosion of her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. More recently, footage of Roan berating paparazzi in Paris circulated online, in which she confronted them by saying she was “being disregarded as a human”.

While many jumped to her defence, Culture Club leader Boy George weighed in on the situation, writing on social media that he “laughed” when he saw the clip “because I have kicked off at them many times”. He added, “The trick is to own your fame. Yes, it’s annoying at times, but so is being ignored and told you’re a ‘has-been.'”

Following her incident with Frello, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, announced on social media that he was banning Roan from performing at their series of international megashows, Todo Mundo no Rio.

Roan has yet to respond to Frello’s claims.
