Foo Fighters release new live EP exclusively on Bandcamp
Foo Fighters have released a new live EP, Are Playing Where??? Vol. 1, exclusively on Bandcamp.
The six-track collection has been recorded across the stops of their recent impromptu tour of the United States, which saw them pop up for last-minute concerts at intimate venues. Notably, these shows were their first with new drummer Ilan Rubin, who replaced Josh Freese.
The cities on the run included Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California, The Observatory in Santa Ana, California, Black Cat in D.C. and Toad’s Place in New Haven, Connecticut.
To give back to these cities, Foo Fighters will be donating all proceeds from the sales on Bandcamp to local charities in each of the areas they visited last month.
Foo Fighters have followed the name your price approach for the release, meaning fans can choose to donate to pay as much or as little as they’d like for Are Playing Where??? Vol. 1.
The trend of artists using Bandcamp over other streaming services has grown in recent months after Australian psych-band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard quit Spotify, telling fans, “A PSA to those unaware: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology. We just removed our music from the platform.”
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard later made their whole back catalogue available on Bandcamp and also adopted the name your price approach.
Meanwhile, Foo Fighters currently have a gap in their schedule before they are due to return to the road again later this month for shows in Indonesia, Singapore, and Japan before playing two Mexico City dates in November.
As it stands, the only new release from Foo Fighters this year is ‘Today’s Song’, which arrived in May to coincide with their 30th anniversary.
Dave Grohl also emotionally reflected on their career so far, writing, “Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”
