Fontaines D.C. share new video for ‘Liberty Belle’

In what has to go down as a bumper year for the Dublin band, Fontaines D.C. has chosen to celebrate 2019 by sharing a new video for their fan-favourite song ‘Liberty Belle’.

With a critically acclaimed album in Dogrel, a Mercury Music Prize nomination for that same record, a host of incendiary live shows, an unforgettable moment at Glastonbury, and just about every music journalist in the land hanging on their every word, 2019 has been good to boys from Dublin.

The band has chosen to celebrate that year by sharing the new video for their Dogrel tune, ‘Liberty Belle’. The video combines documentary footage from their various sold-out dates across the year with live visuals from their recent sold-out shows at Vicar Street in Dublin.

Speaking about the track, frontman Grain Chatten says: “‘Liberty Belle’ is a lament to the death of old Dublin, written by people who couldn’t afford the new one.” It’s a rip-roaring introduction to the band if you’ve not met and acts as the perfect ice-breaker.

‘Liberty Belle’ isn’t just a catchy track; it’s a piece of modern poetry. Chatten’s distinctive vocal delivery—half-spoken, half-sung—imbues the lyrics with a sense of urgency that feels both intimate and universal. His voice, rich with a Dublin accent, narrates tales of urban life, soaked in disillusionment but not without hope. The title itself is a play on words, invoking both the idea of freedom and a feminine figure who symbolises resilience in the face of adversity.

It’s a track that resonates with the disillusioned and the dreamers alike, a reminder that in a world of chaos, there’s still beauty to be found in rebellion. This isn’t just music for the sake of it—this is a soundtrack for those who refuse to settle, who see the cracks in the system and choose to dance on its ruins.
