Fontaines DC cancel South American shows due to Grian Chatten’s herniated disc
Fontaines DC have been forced to cancel multiple South American tour dates as a result of frontman Grian Chatten sustaining an injury which requires “urgent medical attention,” the band revealed on social media earlier.
Through the band’s official Instagram account, Chatten took to Instagram Stories to release a statement affirming that upcoming concerts in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia would be cancelled due to a herniated disc that requires immediate attention. The statement did not mention the possibility of rescheduling these dates for the future.
Chatten shared that he is “devastated” to cancel the shows, explaining, “I have been really excited to play these beautiful countries for years and it really hurts to be here in Mexico City and not be able to go onstage, but I have been advised today, that I require urgent medical attention. “
“We are very grateful for all your support and with all my heart, I am sorry that I can’t play for you,” Chatten concluded.
The now-cancelled South American leg of the band’s extensive world tour, which included multiple Lollapalooza festival slots, came immediately after their trip to Australia and New Zealand, playing their final date at the Shark Arena in Auckland.
The band is due to embark upon a North American tour in April, consisting of 18 dates across the continent and ending in May. According to the National Institutes of Health, depending on the severity of the case, it can take up to 12 weeks to recover from a disc herniated.
The exact severity of Chatten’s injuries is unknown at the time of writing, so it is unclear whether this injury will impact the band’s North American tour, which is set to begin on April 21st in Salt Lake City, Utah.
