Florence Pugh struck by missile during ‘Dune: Part Two’ panel in Brazil

Ahead of the release of the latest instalment in the Dune franchise, actor Florence Pugh was hit by a missile while attending a panel in South America along with the rest of the cast.

Taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pugh’s right eye was struck by an object that was thrown from the crowd. The rest of the cast and director Denis Villeneuve were visibly concerned for Pugh’s well-being, and she could be seen in footage holding her head before picking up the item.

Pugh is set to star in the latest instalment of Dune alongside fellow newcomer Austin Butler, who notably starred as Elvis Presley in the 2022 biopic Elvis. They both join Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet as they carry on the story of the science-fiction thriller.

During the event in Brazil, Pugh praised the energy from the crowd prior to the incident, stating: “Coming in here, the power of this room is because of the first movie. We felt that when we went on set every single day. So it feels really, really special being here with the second one. And I’m very, very proud”.

Pugh also discussed the thrilling experience she had while shooting the movie, recalling: “I had an amazing time coming and just hanging out with these people, let alone actually getting to work with them”.

In Dune: Part Two, Pugh plays the role of Princess Irulan Corrino, the soft-spoken daughter of Christopher Walken’s Emperor Shaddam IV. The movie is set to carry on from the ending of the 2021 film, where Chalamet’s Paul Atreides vows to carry out his father’s wishes to help bring peace to Arrakis.

Aside from the latest film, Villeneuve has also discussed the possibility of making a third movie around the science fiction novel.

Speaking about Dune: Part Two, the director previously said: “Part One was like the promise of something. But Part Two delivers on that. I’m exhausted, but a happy director.” He also discussed the differences between the films, revealing: “The first movie was more contemplative – a young man discovering a world. Here, it’s a war movie.”

Dune: Part Two is set to arrive in cinemas on March 1st, 2024.
