Florence Pugh to star in movie adaptation of Matt Haig’s ‘The Midnight Library’
Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce a major film adaptation of the best-selling novel, The Midnight Library.
The original book, written by Matt Haig, became a massive success after it was released back in 2020, selling over 15 million copies and subsequently becoming a prime candidate for a big budget transfer to the silver screen.
According to Variety, Pugh is set to star as the lead character of Nora Seed, while also producing the movie. It is reportedly set to be directed by Garth Davis.
Alongside the announcement of the news, author Haig, who is also serving as an executive producer, said in a statement: “I am so happy that Nora’s story is in such great hands, and that her myriad possibilities will be vividly reawakened by the absolute perfect team. And I can’t wait for people to see my book reimagined for the big screen.”
The story of The Midnight Library follows the character of Nora as she is trapped in a space between life and death, faced with all the different paths she could have taken while living.
The novel serves as a commentary on mental health, suicide, and addiction, following on from Haig’s best-selling memoir, Reasons to Stay Alive, which was published in 2017.
The Midnight Library is set to mark the second collaboration between Pugh and director Davis, after they have just finished working together on the upcoming Netflix series East of Eden.
For the actor, it will also come as her next huge project on the big screen, starring in the highly-anticipated double bill of both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, with the two films set to hit cinemas on December 18th this year.
Although further details on the casting and release of The Midnight Library are yet to be revealed, filming is set to take place early in 2027.
