Fleetwood Mac fire guitarist Lindsey Buckingham

Lindsey Buckingham has been fired by Fleetwood Mac, according to Rolling Stone. It is the guitarists second departure from the band having previously left in 1987 before returning in 1997.

A statement sent out to press confirms that Buckingham will be replaced by Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Crowded House’s Neil Finn on Fleetwood Mac’s upcoming tour. It is suspected that Lindsey was sacked from the band rather than leaving. It is also suggested that this will be Fleetwood Mac’s ‘farewell tour’.

“Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution, we look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour.” The note concludes, “The band wishes Lindsey all the best.”
