FKA Twigs admits she doesn’t feel “safe” after Shia LaBeouf lawsuit

FKA Twigs has admitted that she still doesn’t feel “safe” after the conclusion of a lawsuit involving actor Shia LaBeouf.

In 2020, the singer, dancer, and actor revealed that her year-long relationship with the Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf had turned toxic, abusive, and violent. Twigs sued LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress, alleging incidents of physical violence, including being strangled.

They settled privately in July, sharing a joint statement that read simply, “We wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Twigs has opened up about her emotions after the fact. When asked if she feels a sense of safety now that the case is closed, Twigs replied, “No.”

She added, “I wouldn’t say I feel safe. I feel really passionate about being involved with organizations such as Sistah Space and No More, to help survivors in any way that I can. I think it’s less about me at this point and more about looking forward. Just, you know, moving on with my life.”

Twigs’ last release was 2025’s full-length EUSEXUA. This summer, she performed huge slots after stepping in for Doechii at All Points East festival as well as on the main stage at Barcelona’s Primavera festival.

When exploring the impact of EUSEXUA in anticipation of the Mercury Prize nomination, Far Out wrote, “FKA Twigs made us wait five years for EUSEXUA. The experimental techno-dance record is mercurial, transcendental, and overwhelmingly sensual. The club scene, yanked into the spotlight in Charli XCX’s previously Mercury-nominated Brat is underlined, bloated with endless new meanings, and becomes the scene of both ego-death and renewed self-discovery. Twigs’ party contains life and death, twittering across a starry sonic landscape both gentle and harsh.”

Her follow-up album, EUSEXUA Afterglow is scheduled for release on November 14th. Watch the music video for ‘Cheap Hotel’ below.
