David Brewis, the lead singer of Field Music, has created and shared a new song in response to Noel Gallagher’s revelation that he is refusing to wear a face mask during the current coronavirus pandemic.
Noel Gallagher, the former Oasis founding member, revealed that he is an anti-masker despite the ongoing health crisis as the current coronavirus pandemic continues to rage on, claiming the lives of nearly one million people across the globe.
In the UK alone, where the Covid-19 response has been slow and confusing from Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party government, over 40,000 people have already died from the virus as new regulations are rolled out this week amid fears the impending second spike as new confirmed cases rise.
However, despite the fact that all residents of England have been urged to wear a protective mask in public situations, Noel Gallagher is refusing to follow the rules and claimed the request to do so is a violation of his liberty. “It’s not a law,” Gallagher said while speaking on the Matt Morgan podcast. “There’s too many fucking liberties being taken away from us now… I choose not to wear one. If I get the virus it’s on me, it’s not on anyone else… it’s a piss-take. There’s no need for it… They’re pointless.”
While all members of the British public have been told to wear a protective mask while travelling on public transport and, of course, while visiting shops, Gallagher is refusing. “I was going up to Manchester the other week and some guy’s going, ‘Can you put your mask on,’ on the train, ‘because the transport police will get on and fine you a thousand pounds,” he explained. “But you don’t have to put it on if you’re eating.’ So I was saying: Oh right, this killer virus that’s sweeping through the train is gonna come and attack me, but see me having a sandwich and go, leave him, he’s having his lunch?”
He added: “Why do you have to wear one when you’re having a fucking haircut, but you don’t have to wear one in the pub?” he added. When podcast host Morgan supported the idea of wearing a mask to stop the spread of the virus, Gallagher described him as a “cowardly germophobe”.
Now, in his new song which was recorded and posted to social media, Brewis strums an acoustic guitar and sings: “Oh Noel/It’s not about whether you catch it/You stupid knob/It’s more about if you’ve got it/Asymptomatically/And you pass it on/To somebody who dies/You stupid shit.”
