Fictional K-pop band, Huntr/X, land number one in the UK and US charts
Huntr/X, a fictional K-pop band from a new Netflix movie, have topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and the Official Charts in the United Kingdom.
The fictional girl group’s track, ‘Golden’, appeared on the new movie, KPop Demon Hunters, which landed on Netflix on June 20th, 2025, and has become a huge global cultural phenomenon.
Per Netflix, the synopsis for the movie reads: “When K-pop superstars Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) aren’t selling out stadiums or topping Billboard charts, they’re using their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger. Together, they must face their biggest threat — an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.”
Since the film’s release, ‘Golden’ has already been streamed more than 300 million times on Spotify, and the official music video has been viewed over 164 million times on YouTube.
In the United Kingdom, ‘Golden’ is only ever the second K-pop song to reach the top of the charts and the first to do so in 13 years since Psy released ‘Gangnam Style’. They initially reached top spot in the UK on August 1st, before Chappell Roan replaced them with ‘The Subway’, and in the latest midweek chart, Huntr/X are back in pole position.
On the success of the movie, along with the soundtrack, Cho, who plays Huntr/X’s Rumi, recently said to Deadline: “I feel like the love and response has been so refreshing and fun because it’s not really about our characters being Korean or Korean American, which they are. We are so unapologetic about it, and we love our culture. But I love that it’s such a fun movie that’s being celebrated for how great it is.”
The latest Official Chart in the UK also has two songs from Huntr/X’s rivals in KPop Demon Hunters, Saja Boys, in the top ten. Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100, Saja Boys are in eighth position with their track ‘Your Idol’.
