Fashion designer stops working with Rosalía due to silence on Palestine
A Spanish fashion designer has stopped the opportunity to work with singer Rosalía over her lack of public support for Palestine.
Miguel Adrover took to social media recently to explain that he had turned down the chance to design a custom-made dress for Rosalía. He said this was due to the fact that he “doesn’t work with any artist who doesn’t publicly support Palestina” in a statement shown in an email response to the singer’s team, which he included in his post.
Screenshots that the designer took from an email chain suggested that the request for the custom dress was being made for an event in September this year.
Adrover went on to explain in his caption: “Doing ‘The Right Thing’… Silence is complicity, and even more so when you have a big microphone where millions of people listen to you when you sing. That’s why you have the responsibility to use this power to denounce this genocide.”
Moving to address Rosalía directly, the designer continued: “Rosalía, this is nothing personal. I admire you for all your talent and for everything you’ve achieved. And I think you are much more than those artists who only dedicate themselves to show business and entertainment. Now we have to do ‘The Right Thing.’”
After Adrover criticised the singer for her perceived lack of support, a post then circulated online from a Rosalía fan account, which appeared to show a statement she posted about the situation in Gaza in 2023.
Rosalía had allegedly reposted information from the charity UNICEF about the need to support children fleeing Gaza as a result of the conflict, but she has never been seen to post anything else on the matter since.
The singer has also not made any public comments about Adover’s refusal to work with her.
